The CAFIPLA project was presented at the EFIB 2022

On 26-27 October 2022, EFIB 2022 took place in Vilnuis, Lithuania. Ester Hegel (DECHEMA) and Christina Andreeßen (DECHEMA) presented the CAFIPLA project.

The European Forum for Industrial Biotechnology & the Bioeconomy 2022 (EFIB 2022) is Europe’s primary conference dedicated to the economic and green contribution to Europe from innovation and manufacture within industrial biotechnology and the bioeconomy.

Within the CAFIPLA project an integrated biomass valorisation strategy is developed, combining a carboxylic acid and a fibre recovery platform (CAP/FRP) thus providing an innovative biomass pre-treatment approach for bio-economy applications.

The upscaling potential of the CAFIPLA technology is being demonstrated with a TRL5 pilot. To this end, the CAFIPLA approach improves the sustainability and cost-effectiveness of pre-treatment by ambient temperature, low chemical use and bio-waste use as input material. Furthermore, accompanying analysis of the biomass supply chain, market potentials, and sustainability impacts of the CAFIPLA technology are performed to identify strategies for future technology implementation.
