Joint webinar of CAFIPLA and BioBall “New value chains from biogas plants”
Pressure is growing on EEG-subsidized biogas plants to become profitable in the long term. New value creation beyond gas and fertilizer must therefore be considered. Together with the BioBall innovation area that aims to recycle second- to fourth-generation biogenic material streams generated in the Frankfurt/Rhine-Main metropolitan region, CAFIPLA organised the webinar “New value chains from biogas plants” On 5 December 2022, the four expert speakers from TECNALIA, DBFZ & UFZ, THM Gießen and DECHEMA reported on the latest advances in ther field of biogas plant valorisation approaches:
• TECNALIA: CAFIPLA-Combining carboxylic acid production and fiber recovery as an innovative, costeffective and sustainable pre-treatment process for heterogeneous bio-waste.
• DBFZ&UFZ: A production process for medium-chain fatty acids from biomass to be integrated into conventional biogas plants
• THM Giessen: The utilisation of terpenes from the gas stream of waste-based biogas plants
• DECHEMA: The new FNR project BiogasanlagePLUS analyses biotechnological approaches to utilise CO2 from biogas plants
